Dr. Jason Ravitz

Jason Ravitz

Jason Ravitz has been involved in two national surveys of teacher technology use and pedagogy, and he has worked on the development and evaluation of online professional communities for educators with a focus on strategies for program evaluation and assessing learning in online settings.  Prior to joining CILT, he  worked on the Teaching, Learning & Computing: 1998, a national survey at UC, Irvine, where he also was project evaluator and co-author of The Irvine Experiment, two consecutive PT3 grants received by the Center for Collaborative Research in Education.

He worked at BBN Educational Technologies in Cambridge, MA on the National School Network project, where he helped develop and authored the summative evaluation report for the Online Internet Institute, a national (NSF-funded) collaboration for teacher professional development.  He also developed the Site Evaluation Form for Educators, used by pre-service and in-service programs in six states with a shared database and discussion component.

Dr. Ravitz received his M.S., and Ph.D from Syracuse University in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) and has taught computers in K-12 settings, and worked as an information systems consultant in Boston.   He received a certificate to teach high school social studies through the Undergraduate Teaching Education Program (UTEP) at Harvard University.

His research interests include understanding and creating conditions for technology innovation that support pedagogical reforms, evaluation of educational technology reforms, and the design of technology-supported assessments.  He has consulted on a number of state-wide and regional efforts to advance scholarship in educational technology and has presented his work widely to both practitioner and researcher audiences.
