Sherry Hsi received her degrees in both engineering and science education from the University of California at Berkeley. Her research centers around the design of social contexts for learning mediated by technology. She has addressed this research in two areas. In one area, she has investigated the design of electronic discussion to support scientific discourse and equity in learning. In a second area, she has been designing and studying the uses of distance learning and netcourses to support the development of exemplary teacher practices. She is particularly interested in how networked technologies, including mobile computers, can be used to facilitate productive social exchanges that lead to deeper inquiry, reflection, and assessment. She recently co-authored the book Computers, Teachers, Peers. Until recently, Dr. Hsi served as a postdoctoral scholar with CILT's Ubiquitous Computing theme team, exploring social learning contexts mediated by low-cost, pocket-sized technologies.
