Abstract. Questions:
o What are the effects of learning and teaching with technology?
o How do we explain what these effects are to the public?
o How to break focus on standardized test scores? Is it possible to expand the focus, to develop alternative measures, not necessarily as a replacement, but measures that have a place in reporting and are valued?
We propose to study, validate, and determine measures and reporting methods from student/school results additional to those measured by standardized testing.
Possible categories (specifics TBD; rubrics and benchmarks TBD)
o Communication skills
o Collaboration Skills
o Critical thinking
o Creative thinking skills
o Information management skills
o Processing skills
o Continuous improvement skills
o Reflection (metacognitive) skills
Hypothesis: performance on validated categories and specific elements is significantly influenced by the use of technology
Also interested in how these categories relate to existing standardized test items. Does the FCAT already get at many of these issues?
