diSessa.gif (5791 bytes) Andrea A. diSessa´s research centers around the design of comprehensible but very flexible computer systems and their use in enhancing mathematics and science learning. He also studies conceptual and experiential knowledge in science learning. He is principal investigator of the Boxer Computer Environment Project (http://soe.berkeley.edu/boxer.html), an integrated system that allows non-experts to perform a broad range of tasks, including programming. The system has been used to involve students in "learning science through design" in areas ranging from physics for sixth-graders to designing scientific and mathematical representations. Dr. DiSessa is a member of the National Academy of Education.
