Notes on the schedule.
Poster Sessions. Participants in past CILT workshops and conferences will note the lack of "firehose" sessions, where each participant was given five minutes (!) in which to acquaint the group with his or her work. As a result of feedback, we have eliminated these. Instead, participants will have two, more thoughtful, ways of communicating their interests: through an online posting and through poster sessions. Prior to the conference, invitees are urged to post a description of their research interest and to review the postings of others.
All participants who request it will be offered space at one of the poster sessions. The first, Thursday morning will focus more on reports and findings whereas the second that afternoon will have more demonstrations and examples. Each poster session will be 90 minutes long and be in the same area as refreshments. We hope this will provide a relaxed atmosphere where people with similar interests can locate one another and share ideas.
Invited Talks. Again, in response to feedback, we have scheduled a small number (five) of exciting invited talks or panels organized by leaders in this field. Each will be a half-hour long with 15 minutes reserved for discussion. These will all be on the first day, alternating with poster sessions.
Birds of a Feather Session. The goal of this session is to share expertise. Participants, meeting in small groups will discuss the workshop theme and sub-themes.
The CILT Collaboration Process. Aside from the BOF session, the second day is devoted to forming collaborations to further research and development in this field. We start with a plenary brainstorming session where the question is "What are the next steps we could do together?" Having seen the present and the near future, looked at the barriers and shared expertise, we now ask how we can collaborate to realize important advances. We put out many possible ideas and then narrow them down to a small number that can be discussed in small groups. These groups meet for three hours and then report back to the entire workshop in a final plenary session.
