Project description | Consulting for the American School of Paris to use visualization media to assist in the teaching and learning of math, physics and foreign language. Tools being used are QuickTime, Premier, TableTop, MBL graphing software, Measurement in Motion, HyperStudio, LegoLogo |
Theoretical background | MIT Media Lab - Nicholas Negroponte, Seymour Papert, Hooper Woolsey and Judah Schwartz were advisors on my dissertation on the Aspen Movie Map. Apple Multimedia Lab - Visual Almanac. Conference Talk - "Learning Where the Truth Lies" |
Challenges | How do you deal with the dilemma that the more "realistic" the visuals become, the more they are believed as conclusions, when they are really hypotheses? How you make one concrete example stand for a class of phenomena (and when are you justified in interpreting visual examples that way)? Are students learning more about the physics content or about the bells and whistles of visualization software? |
Partnership | People and groups to discuss like-minded problems, solutions, opportunities, and interests. |
